Smoke in Ellensburg May Impact CWU Home Games this Weekend

Smoke in Ellensburg May Impact CWU Home Games this Weekend

Letter from CWU Athletics Director, Dr. Dennis Francois
Dear Wildcat fans,

Both the Jolly Mountain and Naches forest fires have negatively impacted Kittitas Valley air quality during the past week. At present, it does not appear to be improving. In response, we are developing a contingency plan for this Saturday's, September 9th CWU football home opener against Western Oregon University.

During the course of the next 24 hours, we will monitor fire containment efforts, weather forecasts, and air quality to determine the best and safest course of action for all Wildcats and Wolves fans, which may involve moving the game away from Tomlinson Stadium. We will make our decision as early as Wednesday at noon.

If the air quality in the area does not improve, we will, instead, play the game at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell, with kickoff at noon. We will announce our decision via the CWU athletics website (wildcatsports.com), university website (cwu.edu), social media (@CWUAthletics), and by email. You may also call us at 509-963-1914.

CWU season-ticket holders and those who have already bought single-game tickets for the contest, will have their purchases honored should it be moved to Bothell. Tickets will also be available for purchase there the day of game.

Pop Keeney is located at:
9809 NE 188th St.in Bothell

Our women's soccer home games on Thursday and Sunday, versus Northwest University and Stanislaus State (CA), respectively, are also pending possible site changes.  In addition, our annual CWU Cross Country Invitational scheduled to be held on Saturday in Yakima, is also pending.

Due to the uncertainty of game/event times and locations as of today, and to provide you with accurate information, we will be sending out our Athletics Newsletter tomorrow after we have made our decision.

Thank you for your understanding and please keep an eye out for our announcement on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
