Wildcats’ Junior Thrower Met Provisional Division II Standards during Indoor, Outdoor Seasons

Junior Becki Duhamel earned GNAC Female Newcomer of the Year honors after three top-three finishes at the outdoor conference championships in 2013.
PORTLAND, Ore. (May 29) -- Central Washington University junior Becki Duhamel (Wenatchee) has been selected as the 2013 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Female Newcomer of the Year for outdoor track and field, the conference announced Wednesday.

Duhamel, a transfer from Lehigh University, starred in her first season with the Wildcats. She placed second in the GNAC in the hammer (168 feet) and the discus (137 feet, 7 inches) at the outdoor championships, while also placing third in the shot put (42 feet, 3/4 inch). Her season's best marks in the hammer (171 feet, 11 inches) and shot put (43 feet, 11 3/4 inches) both rank among the top 10 in conference history.

Duhamel was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Female Field Athlete of the Year during the indoor season. She met provisional NCAA Division II national qualifying standards during both the indoor and outdoor seasons, but did not advance to the national championships.
