PORTLAND, Ore. -- Senior catcher Kyle Sani (Kennewick/Southridge HS) was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and freshman outfielder Kramer Ferrell (Ellensburg) earned Freshman of the Year honors to highlight five first-team all-conference baseball selections from Central Washington University.

Sani was tabbed as the GNAC Player of the Year after a .347 batting average, a conference-record 18 home runs, and a league-best 58 runs batted in. He also finished with a slugging percentage of .724 and team-leading totals of 14 doubles and three triples. His home run total leads all NCAA Division II players entering the national playoffs.

Ferrell had a standout rookie campaign on the diamond, batting .352 with four home runs and 17 RBI. He also stole six bases in eight attempts, finished with 50 hits and 32 runs scored, and made just two errors as the Wildcats' everyday left fielder.

Sani, Ferrell, senior first baseman Justin Peterson (Tacoma/Life Christian Academy), senior third baseman Marc Garza (Othello), and junior left-handed pitcher Skye Adams (Vancouver/Columbia River HS) all earned unanimous selections to the all-conference first team.

Peterson, who transferred from GNAC rival Western Oregon University, batted .295 and was a defensive mainstay at first base. The left-hander set a CWU single-season record with 365 putouts and committed just four errors in 387 defensive chances (.990 fielding percentage).

Garza was the team leader in batting average (.360) in his only season at CWU. He tied for the team lead with 68 hits while setting a single-season school record with 13 sacrifice bunts. Garza, a transfer from Campbellsville University, played third base, shortstop, and first base over the course of the 2013 campaign.

Adams emerged as the Wildcats' pitching ace despite missing four weeks of the season due to injury. He finished the year with a 6-2 record and 3.80 earned-run average, with his top performance being a 2-1 victory and a two-hitter against Lewis-Clark State College on Feb. 15.

Junior right-handed pitcher Stuart Fewel (Portland, Ore./Wilson HS), sophomore second baseman Kasey Bielec (Port Orchard/North Mason HS), and junior shortstop Joel Johnson (Olympia) were named to the second team, while junior outfielder Ethan Sterkel (Ellensburg) and junior left-handed pitcher Joe Arlt (Spokane/Central Valley HS) added honorable mention accolades.

CWU finished the 2013 campaign with a 30-24 overall record and a 19-13 record in GNAC play. The Wildcats made their first postseason appearance since 2001, losing in the championship game of the inaugural GNAC Tournament.
