LACEY (Oct. 26) -- Midfielders DANIELLE BRANDLI (Bellevue/Interlake HS) and REILLY RETZ (Kent/Kentwood HS) scored less than two minutes apart early in the second half, helping the Central Washington University women's soccer team extend its unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-1 victory over host Saint Martin's University on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats improved to 10-4-1 overall and 9-2-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, holding onto a one-point lead for second place in the conference standings. Saint Martin's fell to 4-11-0 overall and 3-9-0 in the GNAC.

Brandli scored her seventh goal of the season at the 49th minute, taking a pass from sophomore CASSIE RIPLEY (Vancouver/Skyview HS) and beating Gina Cardenas to tie the game at 1-1. Then, a minute and 57 seconds later, Retz scored the eventual game-winning after rebounding her stopped penalty kick. Retz's first two goals of the season had been game-winning penalty-kick tallies.

CWU turned up the offensive pressure in the second half, registering eight of its 11 shot attempts after halftime. Meanwhile, the Wildcats' defense held Saint Martin's to just one shot in the final 45 minutes -- an on-goal attempt by Dani Eldridge with 7:03 to go that junior KAYLA LIPSTON (Federal Way/Decatur HS) stopped.

Saint Martin's scored the game's first goal at the 12th minute, when Kelli Bannerman tallied her 10th goal of the season off a shot from 15 yards out. Abby McFaul was credited with the assist as the Saints took their first lead of the season series against the Wildcats.

CWU finished the game with an 11-6 shots advantage, and each team was whistled for 12 fouls. Saint Martin's had all six corner kicks in the match.

The Wildcats, who have already secured a berth in the second annual GNAC Tournament, will play their home finale this Thursday (Oct. 31) against conference leader Western Washington University at 3 p.m. CWU then concludes the regular season at Seattle Pacific University next Saturday (Nov. 2) at 1 p.m.
