ELLENSBURG (Oct. 12) -- Juniors
DANIELLE BRANDLI (Bellevue/Interlake HS) and
SAVANNA MOOREHOUSE (Bonney Lake) scored two goals each, as the Central Washington University women's soccer team improved to 6-2-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 win over visiting Simon Fraser University on Saturday.
The Wildcats, now 7-4-0 overall, completed a weekend sweep at home. CWU also defeated Seattle Pacific University, 1-0, on Thursday afternoon, and the Wildcats have won five of their last six. Simon Fraser remained winless, falling to 0-8-2 overall and 0-6-2 in the conference.
Moorehouse scored at the 11th and 41st minutes, and then assisted on Brandli's final goal at the 49th minute as the Wildcats built a 4-0 lead just four minutes into the second half. Brandli had made it a 2-0 advantage at the 18th minute off assists from junior
HADLI FARRAND (Ellensburg) and freshman
MEGHAN WARD (Chehalis/W.F. West HS), scoring on the doorstep against SFU goalkeeper Simone Tessler.
Moorehouse's second goal of the contest -- and sixth of the season -- came just five minutes left before halftime as she boomed a shot from 22 yards out.
The Wildcats held Simon Fraser without a shot in the first half, and the Clan finished with just three attempts for the match. The visitors' lone goal, scored by Ali Trenter at the 55th minute, came on their first recorded shot of the game against the CWU defense.
CWU dominated in every statistical category, finishing with a 25-3 edge in shot attempts and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Wildcats were also whistled for 17 fouls to Simon Fraser's three.
Moorehouse and Brandli combined for 15 of the Wildcats' shots in the match, including seven on goal.
CWU will now play five of its final six matches of the regular season away from home, beginning with a road trip to Montana State University Billings and Northwest Nazarene University next Thursday (Oct. 17) and Saturday (Oct. 19), respectively.
