Leid, Wang Voted to All-West Region Baseball First Team

Seniors Earn Wildcats' First Daktronics All-Region Selections Since 2008

ELLENSBURG (May 17) -- Seniors DAVID LEID (Carson City, Nev./Carson HS) and BRANDON WANG (Mill Creek/Jackson HS) were selected to the 2012 Daktronics, Inc. Division II West Region first team, as announced Thursday.

Leid was selected to the first team as a designated hitter, while Wang was recognized as the top second baseman in the West Region.

Leid, who was named to the all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference first team last week, hit .329 this season with four home runs, and his 35 runs batted in were second-best on the club. Fifteen of his 48 hits totaled in 2012 were of the extra-base variety, including 11 doubles.

Wang, who was only a second-team all-GNAC selection, impressed West Region Sports Information Directors with his .350 batting average and solid defense, committing just three errors on the season. Wang also hit three home runs and drove in 19 runs in 34 games for the Wildcats.

Leid and Wang are the first Central Washington baseball players to earn first team Daktronics All-West Region recognition since the 2008 season, when former Wildcat shortstop Jamie Nilsen was named the region's Player of the Year.

Winning the specialty awards were Cal State L.A. third basemen Daniel Duran, who was named Player of the Year, and Cal Poly Pomona senior Geoff Broussard won Pitcher of the Year.

Pitcher Grady Wood, first baseman Bo Folkinga, and shortstop Blake Miller, all of Western Oregon, were the only other GNAC players to earn spots on the all-region team.
