WILDCAT SOCCER FALLS TO CAL STATE STANISLAUS ON LATE GOAL
Central Suffers Second Double-OT Loss of Season, Now 0-4 Versus CCAA NAMPA, Idaho (Sept. 5) -- Central Washington held a 12-8 shot advantage over Cal State Stanislaus, but for the second time this season, the Wildcats were unable to come away victorious in a double-overtime match as they lost to Cal State Stanislaus, 1-0, in a neutral-site match played at Nampa, Idaho, on Saturday morning.
The loss drops Central to 1-4-0 overall, with all four of its losses coming against members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association. CSU Stanislaus improved to 3-0-0 and the Warriors have yet to allow a goal this season.
"We had a slow start but a great second half," CWU head coach
Michael Farrand said. "We had a couple of great chances in the second half, and another in overtime, but just weren't able to capitalize."
The Wildcats, who had previously lost a double-overtime match at UC San Diego, 2-1, last Saturday, were unsuccessful on two good open looks and a one-on-one play by freshman
Carson McKole (Oak Harbor) in the final 64 minutes.
After Central was unable to score on a good corner kick opportunity in the first overtime, a corner kick goal by CSU Stanislaus is what won the contest. Kim DiNardo scored on a corner kick by teammate Heather Overholt with 1:12 remaining in the second overtime.
CWU was led offensively by freshman
Kelsy Villegas (Graham/Graham-Kapowsin HS) who had four shot attempts. Junior
Kaycie Hutchins (Port Orchard/Bellarmine Prep) and sophomore
Brittany Franks (Yakima/West Valley HS) had two shots on goal each. Senior
Amber Easterbrook (Kent/Kentwood HS) made just one save in the match.
Central Washington will wrap up its season-opening six-match road trip on Monday morning (Sept. 7) against the University of Mary (N.D.) at Nampa.
NOTE: Central Washington's home-opening match with Simon Fraser, originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, will now be played on Sunday, Sept. 13, at noon.
BOX SCORE: Cal State Stanislaus 1, Central Washington 0 (2 OT)
